Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Annual Food & Hygiene Drive Supports Local Families
Denver Metro South Rotary came together for its Annual Food & Hygiene Drive, a community-centered service project focused on supporting local families experiencing food insecurity and hardship.
The project began with a collaborative volunteer assembly event where members gathered for a casual brunch before organizing into teams to prepare and distribute donation bags throughout the neighborhood. Each bag included a simple invitation encouraging residents to donate nonperishable food items and essential hygiene products for individuals and families in need.
Volunteers then went door-to-door delivering the bags, creating meaningful opportunities to connect with the community while raising awareness about local food insecurity and the growing need for hygiene resources.
The response from neighbors was both generous and inspiring.
A few days later, Rotary members returned to collect the filled donation bags and were overwhelmed by the community’s support. Together, volunteers gathered a meaningful volume of food, toiletries, and household essentials that would directly benefit local nonprofit organizations serving vulnerable families across the area.
All collected donations were delivered to two valued community partners: Backpack Society and Integrated Family Community Services (IFCS). Both organizations provide critical food assistance, hygiene products, and support services to individuals and families facing financial hardship and housing instability.
More than simply collecting donations, the Annual Food & Hygiene Drive reflected the spirit of Rotary in action — neighbors helping neighbors through compassion, service, and community collaboration. From preparing bags and walking neighborhoods to sorting donations and supporting local nonprofits, every volunteer played a role in creating meaningful local impact.
Projects like this continue to strengthen Denver Metro South Rotary’s mission of building stronger communities through friendship, leadership, and service. By partnering with local organizations and engaging community members directly, Rotary helps ensure families have access to essential resources while fostering connection, kindness, and hope.
