Join Us for an Inspiring Conversation on Global Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Featuring Rotarian Steve Werner Water-related health issues are the largest health problem in the world, leading to more preventable deaths than any other cause—most of them children under the age of 5. Every four seconds, someone dies from a waterborne disease. Despite these staggering numbers, many people in economically developed countries remain unaware of the global water crisis—thanks to our own access to safe water. Rotarian Steve Werner will lead us in an informative and eye-opening discussion about WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), Rotary’s second-largest area of focus in terms of funding from The Rotary Foundation (second only to the End Polio program). Don’t miss this opportunity to deepen your understanding of this critical issue and learn how Rotary is making a difference worldwide! Meet Steve Werner: Steve Werner is an international development consultant after a 25-year career working with large NGOs, such as CARE, Habitat for Humanity, Water For People, and the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect. His major focus has been capacity building for bigger, stronger, and more sustainable WASH programs. “WASH” stands for Water (safe drinking water systems), Sanitation (safe, clean and easily serviced systems) and Hygiene (education, behavior change and monitored approaches. He served in Peace Corps – Korea as a two-year volunteer from 1976 – 1978 and Peace Corps Response Volunteer – Georgia from 2016 – 2017. He has served in Rotary, through the Rotary Club of Denver Southeast, since 1989 and still serves at the club, District and International levels as a Water and Sanitation specialist. He has served in Leadership San Antonio, the Kellogg National Leadership Program, and the Salzburg Seminar. He is a past board chair of the National Peace Corps Association. Steve along with other Denver area Rotarians helped to develop the partnership between Peace Corps and Rotary and he is the charter president of Partnering for Peace: Friends of Peace Corps and Rotary.
